Mini Casks Guide
So you are interested in mini casks?
It’s simple:
CHILL, STORE, VENT, TAP & POUR!
CHILL: Chill your beer to your preferred temperature. Those who prefer their cask ale may want to find a space between 10-8c. Depending on where and how you are cooling this may take 3+ hours!
STORE: You are now the cellar master of your own home! As your mini cask contains live yeast we’d recommend taking a bit of extra care. We recommend for the brightest beer you store your mini cask upright for as long as you can. We do not fine our beers so no worries if your down with the haze. This is just a small amount of natural yeast, a great source of vitamin B!
VENT: Grab a bit of paper towel! Keep your cask on a flat surface and twist that little tab at the top from the 0 position to the I position! You may get some gas escaping, sometimes a bit of beer as well, this is normal!
TAP: Don’t worry nearly there! Using the tab, pull out the red tap at the base of the cask. These may require a bit of leverage to get going as they are hermetically sealed at the factory.
POUR: Now the bit you have been waiting for! Get a suitable glass hold at a 45 degree angle and in one smooth movement open the tap fully by rotating 90 degrees! As the beer level rises bring your glass up to a perpendicular stance! Don’t worry if you don’t pour the perfect pint, this is why you should always tip your bar tender! Once you’ve finished your pour, to extend the length of the life of your beer make sure to close the vent between pouring sessions.
A couple of things to keep in mind, try not to move your mini cask once opened, try to keep the vent closed when not in use, always store below 10c. Some beer styles have different fizzy levels. We are style specific, any problems give us an email!
Back in the summer we made this little video showing you how to open and care for your mini keg!
